I don't know if this will work or not, but here's something that came to me tonight:

What if we do some "surprise collaborations"?

How this would work is someone would record a backing track to one of our Praise Exchange tunes and put it on the FTP site. Then, if someone else sees it out there and wants to contribute, they will take the file, record their own instrument over it, and put it back on the FTP site. Then, after a designated time period from the start of the collaboration, the final results will be posted and we can post to the forum who we are and what instruments we contributed.

What do you think?

Honestly.. I think that might be asking for some trouble :) It will work right up until the first time either A) No one takes the tune or B) one of the people involved hates what the other does with the tune. I am all for collaborations but not blind ones so to speak :)

Or C: 25 people decide to contribute and it turns into a muddy mess.

I probably should start considering the social, political, and musical ramifications of an idea before I display it on an international forum, instead of being Captain Kirk all the time.

Besides, we've got three Eejit books to finish before we can even start thinking about such a project. ;)

Not a bad idea, Ren. It worked out great for "Be Thou My Vision" on a previous incarnation of PWA ... but I don't think that one was done as a blind collaboration. I think it would be interesting to hear something that might have your dulcimer or keyboard playing, Keith's whistle, Connie or Kitty's guitar, or whatever is offered that 'fits' the mix going. However, busy as most seem to be, finding the time for such a project might be the hardest part.

I think you have WAY too much time on your hands.

On the other hand it might be good fun.

This kind of collaboration, or a non-surprise kind, might be interesting, though I couldn't do much right now (except play a tune and then pass it on).

But I do like the idea of collaboration in principle. You may remember that Shadoes took my whistle playing on Amazing Grace, added singing and also voice reading one of the Psalms and part of the hymn-text. He really did a good job with it.

Yes but that was not a blind colaboration :) I asked first :)

I am not against colaboration. Far from it. I am just leery of the blind colab concept. :)
