Post subject:  AND THE WINNER IS . . .

It's Autumn equinox and time to choose the winner of the Whistle Give Away for playing on TPE.

I checked all the tunes from # 14 to 22, wrote the names for those who had recorded the individual tunes (I checked the download page as well to see if there were others there also which hadn't made the main page yet), put the names in an empty tissue box (sorry, to lazy to walk downstairs and get a hat), and drew out the name.

The winner of a Granite Falls High D Aluminum whistle is SHADOES.

Thanks to all who participated. There really were some fine tunes posted and if I had time, I would send each person a whistle. I hope you'll keep playing and recording for TPE. In fact, I will give away another whistle in December and choose the name on December 21 (the Winter Soltice and just before Christmas).

Shadoes, please PM with your address.

The GFM D is a fine whistle, I like mine (good thing I didn't win, hmmm?) and used it to record at least one TPE tune ... I think ... maybe ..... could be one I didn't upload .... :-k

G For the first initial of GFM

D For the key of D

The first two words of a poem in the 1993 inauguration: This was Maya Angelou who said
"A rock, a river,a tree. . . " http://poetry.eserver.org/angelou.html
So "A rock" is the clue to Granite which is a rock.

I also said something about water. This is for Falls.

I think those are the only clues I gave (and left on the board). I actually put one clue up, forgot about it, and when I came back to it three weeks later, I'd forgotten what it was for. #-o   So I deleted the whole comment. I actually sort of ran out of time to come up with and write out many more clues.

Judy's right that I would have had to find another whistle to send her had she won (or Blackhawk for that matter). I did have a contingency plan, but that will remain secret because it may be necessary for the December 21 give away.

Well done Shadoes. As has been already said, we'll be expecting a tune on the new whistle when you get it.

Thank you Keith for coming up with the idea of the competition and for your generosity.

I'm glad you won, Shadoes. Of course I would have been glad for whoever won, but I think this whistle will fit you well. (My only request is that if you find it doesn't fit your style that you not sell it. Giving it away is fine. Trading it is fine. This is also the very Granite Falls aluminum whistle that Wanderer reviewed here: http://www.tinwhistler.com/index.aspx He says "This would probably be among my first choices for a Renaissance Faire whistle.")

For those interested, I've left a clip of this whistle playing "Be Thou My Vision" on the TPE Download site, if you want to give a listen. My playing is rather predictable, but it still gives you a sense for what the whistle sounds like. Maybe one of the moderators can put a link here.

Shadoes, you know what this means, don't you?

It means YOU have to play it on the next TPE project!

Anyway, congratulations! 8)

Congrats, Shadoes!! Way cool!

And a special thanks to Keith for having injected excitement onto our boards over and above the usual excitement. It was a generous and innovative idea, sponsoring a contest like this. Well done, Keith!
