Post subject:  Christmas Whistle Give Away

Hi folks. If you play and record a tune for the PWA 2007 Christmas collection, you will be entered in a drawing to win a whistle.

A few general rules:

1. Recordings from the 2006 collection shouldn't be used for the contest. (You may use tunes played last year, but don't simply transfer recordings from 2006 to 2007.)

2. You may record and post as many tunes as you like, but I will count no more than 6 of them per person for the contest.

3. Please be sure to have fun.

I haven't yet decided which whistle will be given away. If you are good girls and boys, maybe I'll give clues or just tell you outright what whistle it is (once I've decided).

You may all go to your rooms and start practicing now.

Two less than six is the page of the thread.

Ooh! Pretty! No clue what it is, though.

If we win, does the whistle make us sound like you when we play? 8)

#-o #-o #-o (That was good, but of course this now means that you MUST record for the Christmas album.)

Oh to have been born with a bass voice . . . :-({|=

I can't say either, at least without actually giving it away. By 'giving it away" I mean without actually telling you which whistle it is, which is different than giving it away -- which is precisely what I plan to do (give the whistle away, not give the clue away). :-#

Gee, I wonder why you can't figure it out.

CLUE #4: At first it was created and was here. Then it was uncreated and created again. Then it was uncreated and created once more. Now it is not here and never shall be again.

K is one ending. K is another beginning. H and R also begin and/or end.

MMMMMMM . . . . :-k :-k

Aloha to all.

 I GET IT!!! It's the Hoover G Koa Wood made from the leg of one of Mack's tables!

If that's not right, it's a pretty reasonable guess. It at least fits the first three clues and the letter parts of clue #4. I get confused just trying to read through the created/uncreated bit of clue #4, so I don't know if it fits that part or not. #-o

Can anyone else figure what the "First it was here" stuff means? (Think endemic.)

In addition to the clue #3 above, you can hear the whistle played on this clip:
http://praisewhistlers.org/exchange/son ... er_khl.mp3

I got this one of a kind whistle from Mack a year ago. It's a fine whistle and I decided to use this as the Christmas give away whistle (when Blackhawk was here this summer he said this is the best Hoover whistle he's heard). Given the nature of this whistle and the work that went into it, I checked with Mack first to be certain he didn't want it as an heirloom. Mack happily agreed to be part of the give away, having provided the labor that went into making this.

So if you haven't posted yet (or reached the contest limit of six clips), get to posting. If you've already posted your six then hope the the odds go in your favor. (And post more just for fun.)

I'll give it a try.

At first it was created and was here. First God created it a tree.

Then it was uncreated and created again. Then it was chopped down and made into a table leg.

Then it was uncreated and created once more. It was hollowed out and created again as a whistle.

Now it is not here and never shall be again. -Well, that's where I stop.

I think he meant that it's a tree native to the Hawaiian Islands, and then Mack had it in the United States mainland, and then it went back to Hawaii.

Between Shan, Connie, and Walden, you've essentially got it. The 'not here and never shall be again' is to say it is no longer here (Hawaii) and won't be again. The whistle is actually on mainland now and will be sent from there to the person whose name gets drawn. (For right now the whistle is with an undisclosed person and an undisclosed location. I'll keep this 'undisclosed' for awhile, though if the person should choose to record a tune and post it that would be fine.

Alright, folks. Here's a recording (not mine) of the Christmas Whistle that will be given away.

The player will remain a mystery for a little while so as to keep people wondering.

O Holy Night

There's really no need to keep this secret any longer. Connie is the person who played the version above of 'O Holy Night'. She has the Low G whistle in her possession and will send it out after I draw the name.

Today is December 7 (a significant day in history by the way) and I think I'll choose the name on December 21. Two weeks for more of you to post.
