From this site: http://www.hymnsite.com/

Text: John H. Stockton
Music: John H. Stockton
Tune: STOCKTON, Meter: CM with Refrain

1. Come, every soul by sin oppressed,
there's mercy with the Lord;
and he will surely give you rest,
by trusting in his Word.
Refrain:
Only trust him, only trust him,
only trust him now.
He will save you, he will save you,
he will save you now.

2. For Jesus shed his precious blood
rich blessings to bestow;
plunge now into the crimson flood
that washes bright as snow.
(Refrain)

3. Yes, Jesus is the truth the way
that leads you into rest;
believe in him without delay,
and you are fully blest.
(Refrain)

4. Come then and join this holy band,
and on to glory go,
to dwell in that celestial land
where joys immortal flow.
(Refrain)

My version demonstrates four Mountain Dulcimer styles:

1. Fingerstyle
2. Plucked Chord/Melody
3. Strummed Chord/Melody
4. Drone/Melody with Harmony

It can be found here (along with a few other tunes, including the collaboration with Lyn. ;)

:thumbsup: I really enjoy your dulcimer contributions, Ren. For this one I'm not sure which is my favorite, the first style or the last! :-k

Nicely done ... but shame on you, Jim, for rubbing it in that you have a Judy C .... :laughing:

Ren, fantastic as always! Enjoyed all the styles, although drones usually give me a headache. (Not a noter player here ... and bagpipes get annoying, too ... :roll: )

Appreciate the comments ... where is Ren's version ?

Judy .... I have considered repenting for "rubbing it in" but ... think you are supposed to mean it .... aren't you???
:-k ;)

I usually feel the same way, but I've found that a droning fifth is less irritating than a droning root note. Probably (music theorists take note) because it doesn't create any dissonant combinations with any of the scale tones.

I love dissonance. My favorite part of any orchestral performance is the tuning, I love it.

My wife was going to get me a set for Christmas one year, but it was too expensive and she really had no clue about what to get. Given the 'cool' response to my whistling, I think I'll bring that up the next time she complains :mrgreen: .

:-k Just wondering if that "cool" response was "cool" as in well done, or "cool" as in icy? ;)

:shock: You're kidding! Do you play her the same stuff you play for us?

I get the same response from my spouse, but only after the 20th run through of the same song. He's a singer. He picks out a song for a Sunday, runs through it two or three times, and he's good to go. Instruments take more work.

Definitely,a huge part of it is the repetitive nature of practice. I would get on my nerves too, I'm sure, if I was on the other end of the whistle.

Also, I intended well over a year ago to do a worship CD with the Karen and the church team, and that's been put aside until very recently. I need to get back to that - I think she's motivating me in that effort, and I need the direction. I've kinda gotten off on a tangent with the whistle/folk/ITrad kinda thing. I don't regret it, but I have to recommit to the CD, she's right.

Aaron .. that is just plumb cool .. nice job .. what is a string drum?

You got me beat ... I have enough trouble trying to play one instrument at a time. :shock: ;)

I'd like to know what a string drum is, too, Aaron. But whatever it is it sounded great along with the pipe!

It's not really a drum at all, but a stringed instrument.

I like them all.
Jim your Judy C sounds as good as mine. :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Jim I love the dulcimer, all 4 techniques. I can't wait until 2 August :mrgreen:

Aaron that approaches the impossible for me. It sounds great.
