These are teardrop lava pebbles. There are much smaller than this picture makes them look. I"m trying to capture the multicolored "glimmer" that these have. Look closely.

This brings me back to when I was a teenager, in the Philippines, and went on a school trip to Taal. I wish I had taken a camera.

Spectacular photos you got there!

Nice pictures, Keith!

Wonder why the lava tube picture (for both you & BH) turned out 'blurry' when the flash was used?

Actually, the blurry one is when the flash isn't used. So the person taking the picture needs to hold extra still because, as I understand it, the lens/shutter remains open for a bit longer and so movement gets picked up. It would be less blurry with a tripod.

Here are a few more pictures from Hawaii's Big Island. I've tried to pick a few that I thought folks here might like.

Various pictures of plants:

Excellent pix, Keith! I especially liked the ones of Akaka Falls. I never saw that on my trip. And of course the lava tube just can't be beat. Good pix!

Those are really beautiful flowers! I wish I had some seeds and they would grow here.

Thanks for the comments, all. I've posted pictures of the lava excursion on the "Real, live, lava" thread.
