These pictures are very touching, Jim. The home is not fancy by any stretch of the imagination, and I can't imagine the heartache that would land a child there. But look at the smiles!

Cassi tells me these kids realize that they are very lucky .... if they were not in the home .. they would be on the streets .. stealing to survive or worse. They are well clothed .. well fed ... and a good school .. and the people who work with them ... love them. I think that does indeed make them very lucky.

It looks a lot more fun than the children's home that I was in as a kid! Well done the staff for making this one such a happy place.

The kid doing the 'bunny ears' behind the other cracks me up!

Some things are the same all over the world.

AMEN! I grew up at a childrens' home (my father was on staff) where they had way more "stuff" but the staff was grim. I was talking recently with the other person in my high school graduating class (I was valedictorian of a class of two  ), and we agreed that a good definition of our growing up was stark....emotionally, spiritually, but we had a low-to-decent amount of "stuff." Small ranch houses, nice beds, three to a room...but something was missing. I think it was the smiles. The children may have been loved, but they didn't quite feel loved.

That's why the smiles in your pictures threw me for a big loop.

You can be poor and happy or you can be rich and sad ... just depends on what's going on in your life.

The kid holding up the "bunny ears" ... I know is my soul mate! ;) And Santa's helper has it going on as well. The other thing I noticed is that they don't seem to mind standing in line for turns on the swing or for apples. Cassi says they are a very happy bunch ..and given to trying to trick her on almost anything!

It also depends on whether the the staff at your children's home you are living in are loving and kind or harsh and cruel. The kids in these pics look like they have wonderful caring staff I doubt if they are ever beaten like we were.

I'll say it again, well done the staff at this home for making it a happy and loving community.

Thank you for the TEXAS translation, I am horrible with names. You never fail to amaze me with your stories JIM. I know the way we pick on each other that some may find it hard to understand. When I see things like this it makes me work harder at the behind the scenes things that I try and keep going. Thank you for sharing and reminding me that things can always be different and there is plenty more to this old world to see if we will only open our eyes.
