Some of you enjoyed the picture of Carlito, the two year old drum mad child of the pastor in Thessalonica. Here are a couple more pictures from my visit last weekend.

It is amazing how he can keep a rhythm at such a young age.

He was dragged off the drums before the prayer meeting but then he found this Turkish doumbek!

His father told me that one of his first words was "drums".

Thank you for the photos of Carlito. I didn't get to see him on this visit as I stayed at home.

I have always thought that kids are able to pick up information ... language .. music .. much faster than adults .... but I don't think I have ever heard of a 2 year old with the talent you describe. A great drummer from another era was Gene Krupper ... would be interested to know when he started on the drums.

This boy's talent truly is amazing.

I'd be curious (from a developmental standpoint) to know if he can clap a beat with skill. A lot of times before age six you have to encourage kids to beat out a a rhythm on their laps or on a desk or something, while clapping with a real rhythm is harder for them.

Still, whether he can clap on beat or not, I don't think it's the norm for a two year old to be able to beat out a rhythm of any kind. There must be a lot of music in his home.

Why is it that so many of the kids that are good at music are Asian? Here is a 3 year old.

Maybe because they don't treat so much as kids - that's to say they don't water down information or lower standards to be accommodating.
