I think a little (I mean a LITTLE) reverb really helps with flutes and whistles. To date for mobile use I have used the Boss reverb stomp box that I have for guitar. However it is not really satisfactory as it does not provide the warmth in the sound that I like. It sounds artificial. Does anyone have alternatives to suggest (apart from the Yamaha ST5 effects system).

I'm not sure about performance, but while recording I make a copy of the original track and time-shift it very slightly to the original. I would say that if you want that for performance, you could use some sort of delay pedal (e.g. Digital Delay) and put in about 10 ms of delay and mix that half-and-half with the original.

BTW, an octave doubler sounds AWESOME with a whistle. 8)

I have a Ibanez delay/echo pedal for guitar so I'll mess about with that tomorrow. Thanks for the tip.
