This is a very good article on the using the recorder (you can use whistle) to play blues. Lots of history and technical info on playing blues.

Remember just over half of the Psalms are laments (blues)!

Wow that is an interesting link!

I wish I could play harmonica.

I have tried. I get light headed every time...

I think this is very interesting since I am a fan of Delta blues. But I have a question for all of you recorder players. How do you keep from getting mixed up on the fingering difference between recorder and whistle? I have a cheap plastic recorder butd when I try to play I cannot keep the fingering around the octave change straight in my mind.

Play blues on your whistles then like me!

Plastic recorders - we have LOTS of recorders. Some of our plastic ones are top of the range and play easily and with great response BUT they all sound plastic to a greater or lesser degree. I think plastic is OK for beginners but I'd be happy to never pick up a plastic recorder again for the rest of my life.

As for your question about finger confusion the answer is practise. Eventually your fingers will know what to do regardless of the instrument you pick up.
