I noticed that the microphone input volume is set at zero, but it sure didn't seem to affect the volume of the recording at all.

I didn't pay much attention to the volume until last night trying to record my band's practice. It was WAY overmodulated and I couldn't do a thing to fix it, until I worked with it some this morning and figured out that Audacity can't do a thing to affect the incoming sound from that thing.

If you get your controls from the system tray they will keep closing their own window. Get them from the control panel and the window will stay open as long as you need it.
