When someone uses the pc to download music from a place called Bearshare, and then I use the computer it acts very slow. Then I use the clean disc feature, and defragment it. Acts ok then. But having to do this two or three times a day is time consuming, and frustrating. Yesterday I clicked around and found where i thought I could delete some old downloaded files that dont look used anymore. The little window came up and said that they were deleted but they are still on the list like they are there. I have just completed another disk clean and defragmenting and the print out went from
free space 98.69GB to 100GB
percent free space 77% to 78%
I did this thinking a cleaner C disk would help speed things up some.
Any tips will be appreciated.

I suggest that you boot with a Knoppix CD and remove the unwanted files with Linux, then boot back into Windows and use their tools to clean up. I have to do that with some files I can't get Microsoft tools to remove.

Have you done a virus scan, scanned and removed spybots and ad-ware? Windows can be infected fairly easily with only Microsoft security software.

Look in your C: drive for a folder named"Prefetch" ( assuming you're using XP) and empty the contents - hold the control button and press the 'a' key to select all, then shift+delete ot get it off the machine totally. That helps me sometimes.

Remember - delete the contents, not the folder.
