Greetings everyone,

I am newbie here, from Indonesia. I have collection of tin whistles (not much), but it is enough for me to can't stop playing whistle now and then :)

Currently, i am following guido gonzato pattern to make pvc whistles. I have made alto A, which is ok for the bottom note, but quite breathy in the second octaves. Also just recently made Low D which have strong bottom note and i like it. After measuring as close as i can with the guide, sometimes the whistles is quite breathy in my taste. I am just curious how can i reduce the "airy" sound and makes the breath is manageable until i can play smoothly without thinking of how much should i push the air or how strong is the note, etc.

Please advise, anybody who already experienced to tweak whistle fipple, how to reduce the "airy" sound in the whistle. Thank's

Reduce the air going through the wind way by lowering the hight of the wind way. Did you make the wind way hight the same as the thickness of the pipe used? What is the thickness of the pipe you used?

I lifted this from the Guido site.
Dealing with Thick Pipe.
As I stated above, when the pipe is more than 1.7 mm thick, the sound will become too breathy. One possible solution is to make the windway thinner. This can easily be done by glueing a bit of plastic sheet under the windway cap. I found that plastic obtained from notebook covers works best.
