Well, sorry I've been absent for awhile . . . lots has been going on. We are in the process of moving to the Portland OR area. Hard to believe I'm writing those words - but tis true.

Our daughter and her husband now have a 9 month old delightful daughter (their first baby) and have asked Banana and Papaya to move close by. Well, that's all it took to get the wheels on da bus turning.

We just have a few little hiccups . . . like jobs, house, other family commitments, etc. to take care of first.

Toward that end, I am currently serving as an interim pastor for a church in Warren OR. Its located about 40 minutes from Elsie Grace (oh and our daughter and her husband). So I'm having a ball.

Oh . . . the Worship Jam - that's happening this coming Sunday night. If you are in the area, you are welcome to join in! All the musicians of the church will gather and have an evening of praise. The rest of the church of course, is invited to join in. Should be quite fun as this church loves its music.

Any suggestions you have on how to make the jam flow well would be appreciated. And yes, by all means, I'm bringing my whistles to join in the evening of praise!

Banana and Papaya? Cool! Elsie Grace (and parents) will make the move well worthwhile.

Wasn't "alespa" aka Matt Spangler from Oregon way back in the day?

Hope the Worship Jam goes great! :sunny2:

Be prepared to lead the meeting.

Start the music :-({|= right on time.
Waiting for those that are late? #-o What about those that are on time? :D

Have a designated fellowship time. Hmmmm...... :-k Yield to the compulsive chatter box, or those that came for the music?

Electronic tuner on hand, and tune up before starting music on time.

Put togeather a play list before meeting. Suggestions/requests can be done week before by Email.
If the group decides to have a name check the acronym before making T shirts or sending that first Email.
One of the groups we were in was the ''Bay Area Dulcimer And String Society''

Great suggestions Tommy!

We used many of your ideas and they helped a lot. The evening was one of the most enjoyable nights ever. We had about 50 in attendance and 8 musicians. What I loved most was the 8 year old girl who brought her violin. She had been playing for three weeks and knew two songs, twinkle twinkle little star and all in all. The group sang all in all w her and loved it.

We've decided to do another one in May. Pure fun.

Sounds like you had a fantastic group and a great time! That 8 year old will remember her debut night for a lifetime. I think I would like your church very much.

Were there any other whistle players in the group? (Or dulcimer players?)

Sadly no other whistles or dulcimers. Wish there were. Perhaps in the future. I just discovered the home school joint effort that meets weekly in our building uses whistles to teach music to kids. I plan to drop in soon and encourage them to keep playing.

Encouragement is always a good thing. If anyone needs a whistle, I think there is still an extra one or so in my stash.

Wonder if they know about Mark's "Whistle & Squeak" tab?

What a lovely initiative!! That wouldn't be possible here because we don't have that jamming culture in church but it sounds really nice.

How many other Southern Ohio people on here?

I see that Judy K is listed in Southern Ohio.
Anyway, if we can get enough people together we could have a jam here.

Daniel, I live almost in the middle of the state at one of the southern most points .. within 16 miles of Huntington, WV. It's a little bit of a drive between here and the Cincinnati area, but a jam session would be fun. :)

Wasn't there a poster named caedmon that was from near the Cincinnati area a few years back?
