I want to recommend a hymn tune for playing on whislte. I've listened to the tune many times, but only today was at a music store, saw the sheet music (for choir), and bought it figuring it would be a nice one for whistling. It's truly wonderfull -- sweet and plaintive. The name is "Death Shall Not Destroy My Comfort"

Here's a CLIP from a choral recording: https://tantararecords.securesites.com/ ... 071fd654d2

The recording is found on this CD: https://tantararecords.securesites.com/ ... talog&i=56

The tune comes from a compilation in 1878 by William Hauser called "The Olive Leaf" -- it's in shape notes, so the websites tell me. I haven't been able to find it, or the dots to pass on. When I can, I will. In the meantime, listen to the clip and see if you can pick up the melody.

Hello, Ive got a few old hymnals, will give it a look see.
Are you fimilar with the hymn "come to the water", sounds like it also would do well for the whistle.

Peace
F.

It's a great CD. This one, and the CD of early american folk hymns by the Boston Camerata that you were also going to buy are two that are probably among the top five on my wife's list and mine too. I'm not going to tell you all about it, but you have to listen to #3. It's a different translation of the text "Jesus the Very thought of Thee" by Bernard of Clairvaux with new music by Mack Wilberg (who is an absolute genius for choral music). Though we had heard it many times, we can both remember when we were on a drive in the mountains, winding our way through aspen groves near sunset and listened to this. Overwhelming. Either one just has to say, 'You remember that time . . . ? and the other knows instantly.

I don't know that hymn and, as of yet, can't find it on the web. What hymnal do you have it in?

Added: Is it this one? You can listen to the whole thing: http://www.hopepublishing.com/html/main ... orkid=1143

The CD arrived, Keith, but I think maybe I got the wrong one? Cut #3 is The Pilgrims. The CD is called Trav'ling Home. Did I get the one we had talked of, or did I make a mistake? Not that getting this CD is a mistake, just curious if I got the one you had recommended.

You ordered the right one. I was talking about #3 on this CD https://tantararecords.securesites.com/ ... talog&i=56.
On the Boston Camerata CD (which we also talked about earlier on the whistle friendly tunes thread) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/sample ... TF8#disc_1 try playing 16, 26 and 11.

16 you can play with a high (or low) F whistle.

Ah, now I get it! Thanks for clearing up my confusion, Keith. Looks like I have more CD ordering to do now. :)

KHL,
Still in search of, should have an answer on the hymn Sunday, our church has a good library including many old hymnals.
The song "Come to the Water" I heard on the radio- Sound of Majesty program by the Moody Broadcasting Network-www.mbn.org. If one goes to the page Sound of Majesty, under music list for 6/23/06 you can listen, also gives the artist(s) and CD.

Grace and Peace to all.

F.
