Post subject:  Home Page Statement

Quoted from the home page:

Quote:
Praise whistlers Abroad is a community of Christian* whistle players, flutists and other instrumentalists that exists for the purpose of exhorting and building one another up. It is a place where musicians can share praise and worship songs, prayer needs, scriptures, poems and ideas for using their instrument in worship. As we share our methods of worship, we pray they will be used in each of our congregations to bring glory to the Lord. Psalm 150 tell us "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord".

*bolding added by me

This is a very nice mission statement. My only question is: Are we truely only looking to attract Christians to it? If not, is there some other word, label, term that we could come up with that would invite all that play music to praise their God?[/quote]

If the site is not of and for Christians, then I think you have to reconsider the mission statement to reflect that, or possibly add that the forum exists not only to build each other up in the Lord and praise Him, but to offer a place where people seeking God can come and find answers, as well as be encouraged along their journey to find the truth . . . or something along those lines.

Also, who is the Lord? If it is Christ, then we need to state that with boldness and in Love. We could be at the precipice where it could be easy to go one way or the other, with the intent of pleasing all, and thus rendering ourselves ineffective for the Lord.

I do believe that whatever is done, should be done in the name of the Lord, who has obviously been blessing this forum in the recent months and growing it beyond what we can do in our own strength. That can only happen when we are seeking Him and turning our hearts towards God (2 Chron. 7:14)

with Blessings & Love to my bro's and sis's in the Lord,
Matt

I suppose the question is what sort of identy and forum those who organized and run this board have in mind.

A site that was dedicated to those who have religious beliefs of any sort in general and whose interest in whistles somehow go together with that belief would be an interesting site (and I'd join it in a minute, given that I teach world religions, am interested in inter-religious dialogue, etc.), but that would be a different site than this one. Both would have value, but I'd hate to lose the particular flavor of this community. I recommend keeping something of the Christian title/identity in the mission statement, though allowing those of other faiths to be a part of the community if they are interested.

I like PWA as a place for me to fellowship with other christians. It is a sort of Church. I can go elsewhere to contact non-christians. If somebody wants to start another board aimed for all religions, go right ahead, but please please don't take away PWA! Image

I like the everything about the opening statement, as is. This is a Christian community. That's how it was founded to be, that's why I like it. Anyone can join, regardless of religious choice; but they do so knowing that most members here are believers in Jesus Christ.

We all belong to other forums, much more secular in terms and threads. Personally, I'm more comfortable here. Taking the "Christian" from the purpose statement would make me feel like Peter denying Jesus ......

Something like a footnote:

Members of other faiths are welcome and are encouraged to participate on this site with the understanding that it is created and dedicated to those with beliefs centered around Jesus Christ. Please do share your musical experiences as related to your worship and faith.

Oh my, found a typo. I made one adjustment making the statement a little more personal. I'd be thrilled if some of the more poetic of you would like to revise the opening statement. We do want to welcome everyone, but we don't want to dilute the fact that this community is overtly Christian.

Try the top right of the pages for a link to the home page.

If you didn't see the typo to begin with, I'll never tell...

My sentiments exactly. If PWA ceases to be Christian, I will cease to be part of it. It non Christians want to start their own board, by all means they should (and they have...C&F, GC, whatever). There are numerous options for non Christians. This is a special place. And I agree, this is sort of a church. That's the way I like it.

There are several very good whistle sites that are devoted to whistle and flute music of any type, most notably Celtic music. I love them and I love Celtic music.

At least since I discovered it a couple of years ago, PWA has been Christian-themed. My humble opinion is that it should remain so. As such, the reference to Christianity in the mission statement is completely appropriate.

No one was required to sign a statement of faith to join this board, nor should they be. However, I strenuously object to the idea that we should welcome or encourage discussion of worshipping “other” gods. Such a practice is condemned by Scripture as idol worship.

As the Psalmist says, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!”

Sorry about the rant. I usually avoid these types of discussions. I do not mean to offend anyone.

No reason to be sorry . . . you are simply confirming what everyone is saying, and I completely agree!

My opinion is that PWA should keep it's Christian heart. To me one aspect of PWA is that it is a kind of online church that meets fellowship and prayer needs etc. Out here this is an important part of our lives. This would probably end if it became a more general forum.

We are missionaries and for a long time have interacted with people from other faiths and found many genuine God seekers among them. But I think we should still be boldly Christian.
