Went out to the center today and recorded a lot of the songs the girls sing as an early Christmas present to a volunteer that the girls love.

Question .... Don't plan to use the same setting I do for the whistle but is there anything in Audacity that would help "voices" ... The recordings aren't bad .. but just wonder if anything helps them?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Hey Jim,

Maybe a bit of digital delay might help it out a bit. It kind of depends on the song and the delay settings really.

Try this:

Before applying any effects, make a duplicate of your original track. I think that's under the Edit menu at the top.

Then highlight the entire duplicate track and go into the effects section and select delay. Start out with these settings:

Decay amount = 15
Delay time = 0.1
Number of echos = 3

Now move on to Gverb. (Delay by itself is rarely a nice effect.) Duplicate the original track again, and select the duplicate.

Start with:

Room size = 50
Reverb Time = 2
Damping = 0.500000
Input bandwidth = 0.750000
Dry signal sevel = -70.00000
Early reflection level = -40.00000
Tail level = -17.500000

Apply that, then listen back to all three tracks, and adjust the gain of the effect tracks either up or down depending on how much or little of each you want to hear.

If you hate these settings, tell us what you hate about them and we'll try to come up with something closer.

Kitty

Jim, if the voices are too 'quiet', you may need to "amplify" or "normalize" them.

You are planning to share the finished product with us, aren't ya?

You are so right, Jim -- it's such a peaceful rendition. Sure you didn't record a lullaby?

;)
