When I took fotos of this and other beautiful sculptures on our island I was reminded of the words of Michaelangelo who said he saw an angel in every piece of marble just waiting to be released. He said his job was to chip away until the angel was set free.

The words of that master artist have been a constant reminder to me over the years that inside every person there is an angel waiting to be released.

Mike did some great work .. Michelangelo's Pieta (Madonna and Child) and David are great. Can't imagine seeing David in a block of marble and then chipping it out ... wow.

However .. I don't remember the detail that your statue shows ... those folds and feathers look life like.

i heard that quote about michelangelo a long time ago. i often wonder what hidden talents are inside people. just like whistles came to a lot of us later in life, i wonder how many talents people have that even they don't know that they have. i work with folks diagnosed with developmental disabilities and i often get to see them blossom and show their hidden talents. many years ago, a man with down syndrome was the person who taught me to keep a strum on a guitar. another man i know who could not do housework to save his life was most excellent at yardwork and landscaping.
