I would like to report a serious case of whistle abuse. Adrian loves to drink tea and every few hours on a walk he will grab a handful of twigs and boil some water. Fortunately he has it down to a fine art and whole operation usually takes 10-15 minutes. However, on holiday when he only found some damp wood he *gasp* pulled the head off an innocent Generation C whistle and used it as a fire tube! Later he used a whistle to stir some soup he was making and on another occasion he used his whistle to drink from a spring! I would NEVER treat a recorder like this. What should we do?

i thought being able to play the whistle right-handed and left-handed was going to be my only parlor/campfire trick with a whistle. this little tip will rock when we go on canoe/camping trips. why did adrian waste time removing the fipple? he could have just stuck the whole fipple in his mouth.

does anyone else know any whistle tricks?

Trust me, it is a lot more comfortable without the mouthpiece.

Fire tubes a great aid to starting fires with poor quality fuel. The fire will roar like a furnace in less than a minute. Note the three stones make the fire very economical and literally a handful of twigs and 10 mins is often enough.

I can post silly pictures of Susan as well!

When we were in India we watched snake charmers charm pythons with their flutes. Here Susan is charming the lunch pot on a mountain walk on our holiday.
