The harvest is just coming into full swing here, so I drove out to shoot some pictures.

You can see here with the push for biofuels from corn, they packed the stalks in thee like never before.

Fewer soybeans this year. The money is all in the corn on the Chicago market. But I found a field of soybeans almost ready for harvest.

For a number of summers when I was I teen I worked for farmers and/or ranchers. There's a real kind of attachment you get to the land and the crops when you work them (something similar happens with gardens) and there's still something that tugs at me when I see croplands in different stages of development, but especially to see a large field when things turn golden in Autumn. Thanks for posting the pictures.

There was a story on CBC the other night about a 22 year old girl and her younger sisters in Alberta who lost their parents and grandmother about a month ago. They have decided they will stay on and run the farm the same as they have always done. They were harvesting barley at the time of the interview. This sounded interesting and not unusual until she said she had 4000 head of cattle and 6000 acres. WOW.
