Today I went for a walk in the woods, taking along a couple of recorders. I found what I thought was a quiet spot and took out my soprano to play a few tunes. Within a couple of minutes a lady ran past with her dog, later followed by several more people. At that point I thought I had better take out my alto recorder as I play it better. I hadn't expected to be heard by anyone. As I was putting my soprano away, a couple approached with two dogs and said how much they had enjoyed my playing. They said they had thought there must be fairies in the woods. When I explained that I was getting out a different recorder to play they were pleased that I was not giving up playing because I had been disturbed.

After this couple had continued on their walk, I played two tunes while facing away from the path. When I turned round I saw two ladies who had stopped to listen and they applauded me. I felt very encouraged and it was especially pleasing because I have been too busy recently to play much music.

This is where Susan is. This was one of my first pictures with the digital camera back in 2005. The lush green is the natural colour as it was spring when I took the pic.

Susan, what a wonderful story. Nice to play alone, nice to be heard and appreciated.

Adrian,

Welcome to the digital world. Most light meters on digitals try to brighten what will be in focus, resulting in an alarming number of washed out skies.
When I go to the Grand Canyon I actually have to focus first on the sky to be the blue and then lower the camera and snap, sometimes rendering the rocks too dark. Its a dance of beauty. try it both ways.
