I took the Sony camera to praise team practice last night, and handed it off to one of the people who come to our practices just to worship.

She took the pictures and I processed them.

At the core is this great team of vocalists.
Image

Another one of the vocalists, with some "poser" in the background.
Image

Our drummer is this 14 year old kid. She's pretty good.
Image

Image

The drummer's mom plays piano for us.
Image

Here's what we were working on:
Image

Our best guitarist--a real jazz cat.
Image

What guitarist wouldn't be happy with a nice effects pedal?
Image

Our very own Whistlenut--aka Josh.
Image

The "other" guitarist--also the "other" pennywhistler and background vocalist, yours truly.
Image

A praise team is only as good as the sound team.
Image

Adrian, any processing tips would be helpful. :? Definitely a low-light room. Many of these pics have a shadow across the bottom. Could it be a finger across the flash unit? I find my own finger wants to stray there with this particular camera model.

Hey! That is huge fun seeing your praise team in action. The team looks great.

Fun snaps are fun snaps and I wouldn't post-process any of them.

The shadow is flash shadow caused by the lens getting in the way of the pop-up flash. It probably happened here by standing too close the subject with the lens at wide-angle (also long lenses and lens hoods cause the problem but I don't think that is the case in these pictures). Try standing a bit further back and zoom in on the subject.

Let this be a lesson to you - you need to take the camera home and master it through lots of experiments. Your school needs to have at least one person who knows the camera inside out and it might as well be you. TAKE IT HOME and take hundreds of pictures with it.

HEY! I resemble that remark!

Actually, she prefers to go around barefoot, but not when it's ten degrees outdoors.

Only one essential question...

WHERE'S THE BASS PLAYER???

What can I say? I view the world from the land of four strings. \:D/

OK - technically it's five strings... haven't played a four string in years...

OK - actually since Christmas it's six strings - my sweetie gave me a really amazing Christmas present... :P

And it's fretless...

COOL - what kind? One of the guys at our church has a 5 string Alembic fretless that sounds really nice. It looks better than it sounds too ... very nice.

Our bass player is unusually talented--she plays bass with her feet.

No, she's not a hobbit. A picture might explain.

Here's the bass:

And here's where her feet go:

Lucky human! She's the only one who gets to go barefoot on Sunday mornings in church. It's a rather nice organ, which plays traditionally, and also has many modern voices and midi capabilities.

She wasn't there at this practice.

My very first paying job (as a musician) was when I was 17, playing jazz standards on alto sax with a guy who did that very thing - played organ/bass, and sang. That certainly moved around some latent brain cells :D . It's amazing how those people can do that. He could do a cool walking bass line with his feet.

It's a Peavey Cirrus. I'd been pining over one of these puppies for years, and when Vicki saw this one on eBay, she did the deed. Redwood top, neck-thru construction, and a lovely voice. Totally eliminated the effects/preamp I had been using. This baby wants to be plugged straight into the house, and boy does she sing!

As for bass on the pedals, I do that myself from time to time (Organ was my minor instrument in college), but with our worship team, the fretless six string is my axe of choice. \:D/

Well, that shows how out of touch I've been with musical instruments over the past gosh only knows how long.... I never even knew there was such a thing as a six string bass, let alone a fretless one!

Typically, a five string adds a B string below the E string. (although they can be strung with a high C above the G) The six string adds both the low B and the high C. There are 7 strings, which add an F above the C, and then you get crazy, even to a 10 string bass that Bill Dickens plays. The man is a mutant. ;) Most people play on a 4 or 5 string. (most sane people, that is) :joker:
