Here are some snaps from our town this weekend.

Image

One of the many Orthodox churches.

Image

Part of the Saturday market. Many thousands come to town each week to shop at the market (pazar). This is the wing that sells cheap clothes and is about a quarter of the total market.

Image

Susan practising one of her many languages with a friend at a street kiosk.

Image

A group of Russians playing cards in one of the squares. This is a favourite pastime for their retired men. Russians are accepted in Greece as they are fellow Orthodox Christians and admired for their key role in winning the second world war. [I converted the pic to B&W as it was unacceptably noisy]

Image

Bikes rule here! They are used to transport everything including large carpets as in this picture. You can also see in the picture some of the Muslim group we are working with. All the women wear headscarfs.

Image

One of the numerous street dogs having a nap.

Like the shots .. especially the dog .... I understand "resting"!

Is the market specialized or can you find most everything there (Clothes .. furniture... cameras ... etc)?

What camera were you using ... and the B&W looks good ... nice choice.

My youngest was taken by the fact that Susan has access to her (my child's) favorite American candy bars. Nice pictures. I also like the sleeping dog. Let it lie. And b&w was a very nice choice for the Russian men.

I really like those pics, too, Adrian. The black and white is definately my favorite.

Okay, I know I am a youngster here (by come standards) but I will admit I am long overdue for an eye exam (not looking forward to bifocals). But isn't the picture with the Russian mean done in sepia and not black and white? I have sepia settings on a couple of my cameras and they look like that.

Please be nice, it was a bad week and I am hoping this one is better.

Thank you all for the comments.

Jim
The market is mostly clothes, fruit & veg, linen & fabrics. There are a few miscellaneous household stalls and a few playing and selling Turkish music CDs.

The camera was a Fuji 9600.

I converted the pic to B&W on the computer and tweaked the colour to warm it up and give it a slight sepia tone effect.
