Here is a spot I found in the town of Drama yesterday.

A pretty spot but with a painful memory. In the building across the pond in the bottom picture is where on 3 March 1943 the German army imprisoned 1,200 Jews ready to send to the extermination camps of Auschwitz and Treblinka for extermination.

I'm glad there is a plaque and memorial here, though non Greek speakers will pass by without knowing. It is a good but painful reminder of why we must hold our leaders to account. Hitler could have been stopped in 1933!

Wow...very sobering. And timely. I leave for Israel two weeks from today. Part of every tour is the Holocaust Museum.

Timely.

I do remember them and so do the Israelies ..... "Never Again" ...is their motto ... and they are very serious about it!

I don't know about the present conditions in the country but the ones that I met and trained were the most dedicated people I have ever known ... I had nothing but admiration for them. If I had been in combat .... wouldn't have minded any of them by my side

Yes, we must never forget the horrors the Jews, Gypsies and others had to face during the Holocaust. We should also remember to pray for those in the walled ghettos in Israel who themselves face collective punishment regularly! The Holocaust reminds us of how easy it is to demonize an entire ethnic group and want to punish them all for the sins of the few.

Psalm 122

A song of ascents. Of David.

1 I rejoiced with those who said to me,
"Let us go to the house of the LORD."

2 Our feet are standing
in your gates, O Jerusalem.

3 Jerusalem is built like a city
that is closely compacted together.

4 That is where the tribes go up,
the tribes of the LORD,
to praise the name of the LORD
according to the statute given to Israel.

5 There the thrones for judgment stand,
the thrones of the house of David.

6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
"May those who love you be secure.

7 May there be peace within your walls
and security within your citadels."

8 For the sake of my brothers and friends,
I will say, "Peace be within you."

9 For the sake of the house of the LORD our God,
I will seek your prosperity.

You know me, Adrian, I'll be lucky to come back with less than 1,000 pictures. :)
