"So we took a ship from Troas and sailed straight to the island of Samothrace. The next day we sailed to the city of Neapolis." Acts 16:11

This is a picture from yesterday in the bay of Neapolis where Paul, Luke, Silas, and Timothy first set foot on the European mainland about 1,959 years ago.

Behind me is a path up the cliff to the castle where I took the blossom pictures yesterday. If you ever visit Greece I recommend a day here.

Great picture Adrian, and well timed. I forwarded it to our pastor. We're working our way through Acts as a bible study now.

thanks for posting it.

That's beautiful. You know, I've really appreciated your pictures of Biblical locations.

Acts is such a great book. I wish I could sit in on your Acts lessons.

Around from that headland is the modern city. It is now called Kavala.

I snapped this pic 5 mins before my bus left. The Turkish castle is on the hill.

I took this picture earlier in the day. It is looking in the opposite direction to the previous one. The hill on the right is the one you must climb before you see the city of Philippi. The ancient Roman pathway still winds its way up the hill.

I don't have better subjects, only different ones. Here are a few more from yesterday.

A canon in the Turkish castle. The blossom trees are the other side of the castle wall.

This Ottoman aqueduct fed a stream of water from across the valley to the castle.

I second the motion. I'll never see these places in person, so I'm seeing them through your photos. Thanks, Adrian :)

You guys really bless us with your photography brother, both you and Susan.

That's true of a lot of folks here - thanks for taking the time to share the pix. They truly are a treat.

peace

I did say 'about' 1959 years ago. From what i have read there seems to be a general consensus among scholars that Paul came to Greece on his second missionary journey in about AD51/52. I gave the approximate number of years ago based on that. I doubt that the figure is wildly incorrect.

I have no idea if Paul wore a leather jacket, although I think it is unlikely based on what we know about dress in the Graeco-Roman world.
