Ran into a bunch of gulls at a fairly large lake about 350 or so miles from the coast. Wonder what they were doing in this far?

We have them here in my town, Jim. They're attracted by any water, like the river, pond etc.

We have them here where we are about 40 miles from Chesapeake bay. They seemed to be attracted to the Walmart parking lot. I don't know what that means.

Nice photos Jim. I tried to take some pictures of gulls today and all I got were tiny spots in the frame.

We have lots of sea gulls here near the Tennessee River. But lately I see them circling parking lots at grocery stores. I think they are confused or looking for a handout.

Nice shot, good and sharp.

Ron, they like parking lots because where there's cars, there are people, and where there's people, there's FOOD. They're scavengers. You'd better watch out for low-flying seagulls!

Thanks for bringing it to light first Lynn, I have to admit that one of the biggest flocks of them I have seen was at the local landfill. The are basically rats with wings. Fun to watch and I do like to hear their "song".... but I am more impressed by them when I am at the beach and not taking things to the dump.

I went out tonight and bought some new batteries for my camera, the present ones are old and just not holding a charge for very long. I hope I can start getting some shots worth posting soon since I am getting out a lot more than I used to.... you have been warned...hehehe

most folk over here call them seagulls.but they should really be known as 'Gulls' only........and although they are so often seen at the seaside they spend much of their time inland....pretty decent photos...well captured.

When I lived in Wilmington, NC, the folks there referred to them as "Sea Hawks". In fact, the nick-name of the UNCW basketball team is the "Seahawks".

There are plenty of seagulls here in Oklahoma, and we're other side of the ocean from Texas.

I'm sure we did in the 70's. Not sure we do any more.

I've noticed seagulls in Oklahoma too. They tend to hang out around the Arkansas river, and lakes. We also are loaded with Canadian geese. It used to be such a special thing to see a flock, but it's becoming pretty common to see them flying, or hanging out near bodies of water.

At work, guys in the field call us corporate folks seagulls

We fly in, eat their food, (poop) all over everything, and fly out
