It seems most people are pretty busy during the first months of a new year, so I'm giving you an easy tune this time.

This one also appears in my husband's Methodist hymnal as "Jesus, Thy Boundless Love to Me."

Here's an accompaniment track Ren made for us:

And here's a demo for it:

I'm going to be out of town for a couple of weeks, but I look forward to learning this song when I get back.

I'll be brave and go first. Mostly to let folks hear my brand new (sort of ) Hoover whistle that I am so proud of. This tune takes me back to the '70s when I was in Catholic grammar school and we would sing it over and over again. It's not as bad as I remembered and actually the melody in the verse is quite nice.
Constructive criticism, and other versions, please.

Here's a very quickly done. sloppy version. This is not what I'd like it to be, but I want to post something and have no time, so ...

You call it sloppy, I call it WOW!!! I really like your interpretation, jrc. Sure did add to that festive feeling I got from Adrian's Carnival fotos

thanks larry ... I've been playing sax and EWI a lot lately ... it's affected my whistle chops, and not in a good way.

Walden - I enjoyed the Medieval sound a lot. BTW I still cannot play a single tune on my tabor pipe. =D> =D>

jrc - In the first part there seemed to be a strong South American feel and sound which I thought was a very interesting take on the hymn tune. Good job!

Have you tried switching mouthpieces to a Hoover? It can make a HUGE difference.

The big problem is that the fingering is not intuitive. I find it quite easy to switch between whistles, recorders, sax, clarinet and flute as the fingerings are fairly obvious and not vastly different from each other but this tabor pipe is a beast to finger and play! ](*,) I'll probably keep it so I can say I have one but I'll leave the playing of them to people more musically talented than me - like you, for example.

I played this Friday in our church sanctuary. Vaulted ceiling, dark room, off hours, just me and the Silkstone D. I added the harmony later with the Greenwood D. Also added a touch--just of touch--of reverb.

As for the flash recorder, Zoom H2. The Silkstone D was recorded onto an SD card. When I added the harmony, I tried using the Zoom as just a mike and recording onto the laptop. That introduced some electronic noise, which you can hear. Zoom works best as a stand-alone, although I would plug into the laptop for a VOIP (voice over internet protocol) mike for chatting online.

Anyhow, this is no great performance, but it was heartfelt and was a nice healing moment for me.

It is too! Though, I know "great performance" isn't your first priority in praise whistling.

A very soul-stirring clip.

Absolutely beautiful, Connie. Your heartfelt playing comes through quite strongly. I certainly enjoyed the harmony part, too.

Got a chance to listen to this clip last night Connie - very nice.

IMO, communication and content is far more important than performance.

You nailed it- well done. I can tell it meant something to you.

Thanks. I didn't have time to comment on all the other versions. Each is enjoyable and there's a real variety of interpretations with this one. Yours was really intriguing with the mix of the tabor and pipe. I liked it the first time I heard it but since then it has kept growing on me. It keeps its newness.

Adrian, what kind of whistle did you play for this tune?

Keith I listened to this last night but didn't post - I had to do a second FAFSA for my daughter and was REALLY sick of the computer by the time I was done.

Really nice - you get a particularly nice sound from the Cheiftain. It sounds more pure than my low D - really cool.
