Check the upload folder. There's now a folder in there called "Christmas 2008." Add as many songs as you want. When you add a song, please post a notice here so we can go enjoy it. Have fun!

Just posted:

"O Tannenbaum"

Both played on mountain and hammered dulcimers and Clarke Original whistle.

P.S.: Tunes are also going HERE.

Here's a 2008 Christmas folder link.

user name: pwatunes
password: mystyle

Just in case anyone else has forgotten. I switched computers and had to go looking for the access info again.

Aaron, Jim ... can't comment on the tunes yet -- still downloading them. Looking forward to listening! :)

*** staying in the same post so as not to bog the thread down with comments ***

=D>

That's some good music, guys!

The concertina surprised me -- anything you can't play, Aaron?

Just added a new one: "Breton Carol", performed on Dixon G whistle and hammered dulcimer.

Great tracks, Aaron! Y'all keep 'em coming! 8)

I can't seem to access it. I get a screen that says "cannot find server."

:-k Hmmm ... do you have a pop-up blocker? Just checked and it opens for me, but has a little pop-up come up asking for the user name and password again before it opens the page -- and then the same pop-up shows up before letting a song download. Definitely a roundabout way to get to the folder. I haven't tried to upload anything ... and fear that it won't work for me on this new computer. Time will tell. (BTW, my browser is Firefox. Maybe it makes a difference?)

Be nice if a simple link to each song was available, but that's up to the admins & mods here, isn't it? :-s

I'm happy to create an FTP account for anyone who wants to volunteer to create and maintain that page. 8)

I'd take you up on the offer, Kitty ... but you would have to teach me how in our spare time. (Spare time? What's that? ) Do you make house calls? O:)

What happened to the way we did it last year, where each person could just upload their song as they posted? That was easy and effective. Hmmmm, it still looks like it's there, as I scroll down from this post before I hit "submit." Is no one using it, or did it stop workiing?

Judy, thanks for all your suggestions and help, but I still can't access any of those pages. It keeps giving me the "cannot find server" page.

When I click on a song, why do I get the Quicktime "Q" with a "?" in the middle of it? Then nothing happens. Quicktime plays o.k. from other web sites.

Added " I Wonder As I Wander" - not real happy with the piano at the beginning - I remixed it twice and I may go it again:

Done - remixed and posted.

Blackhawk, are you using Firefox? If so, you may have to install an ftp manager.

Try this one.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/684

The folder should work as is from Internet Explorer, if you want to go that route.

It does look to me like something odd is going on on the ftp site... the files seem to end up with a .url extension, which of course won't play in mp3 players, so in the short term, in no particular order:

Jim Edwards tunes:

O Tannenbaum

http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/1/22/ ... enbaum.mp3

Angels We Have Heard on High

http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/1/22/ ... n_High.mp3

Breton Carol:

http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/1/22/ ... _Carol.mp3

In Dulcimer Jubilo:
http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/1/22/ ... Jubilo.mp3

From Walden:

Go Tell it on the Mountain

[mp3]
http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/1/22/ ... ell_It.mp3

Hark the Herald Angels Sing

http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/1/22/ ... s_Sing.mp3

Joy to the World:
http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/1/22/ ... _World.mp3

I didn't try to play the songs, just use "save as" and download them to a folder before playing. Looks like I skipped a lot of grief that way. 8)

Thanks for the links, jrc!

I didn't know the Chiff was doing a Christmas album until I saw your post on Mark's Breton Carol thread there. Definitely have to check that out. Thanks for the link, Ren. :)

Yeah just upload them with your post. No need for FTP. The forum has been set up to accommodate this for quite some time. I don't know why we went through all the trouble of the FTP folder. Just do it like we always do with TPE these days. It will save grief all around, for uploader and downloader alike. And there's no extra logging in.

That makes good sense, Aaron, thanks for making that clear.

And now that I've had the chance to hear them all, let me just say, good job all! Thanks for making my Christmas season brighter!

We used to have a 2 mb limit for the new upload system. If you're under 2 mb, just go ahead and attach your file to your post. If you're over 2 mb, either put it in the ftp folder or wait while I check on the attachment system. That may be as late as Monday.

Thanks, jrc, for posting the links. It's been so long since I had regular computer access that I'd forgotten how.

I think the original idea of the Christmas uploads was not so much for online listening, but so people can download and burn a Christmas PWA CD, so originally we did not post links, although I think last year I posted a lot of them just to be nice.

I honestly don't know if I'll get time to post links to everything in the folder or not, so if you can attach your song to your post that would be ideal.

Okay, here's the situation. I just fixed the Christmas folder. My intention was to fix it, then post links to all the songs in there, but it's snowing like a blizzard and I want to get home while the gettin's good.

So I'm leaving my broadband, and I may not get back in commission till after the New Year. So if you'd like to post a link to your songs, it should work now.

The protocol would be something like this:
http://praisewhistlers.org/exchange/upl ... mehere.mp3

What I've listened to so far sounds really good!

Shadoes, I'm going with the Kitty Robbins school of thought on this. Cut-off date? Why? Just have fun. No rules.
