words by Julia Johnston and music by D. B. Tanner

1. Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt,
Yonder, on Calvary’s mount outpoured,
There where the blood of the Lamb was spilt.

CHORUS: Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within,
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin.

2. Sin and despair, like the sea waves cold,
Threaten the soul with infinite loss,
Grace that is greater, yes, grace untold,
Points to the refuge, the mighty cross.

3. Dark is the stain that we cannot hide,
What can we do to wash it away?
Look! there is flowing a crimson tide;
Whiter than snow you may be today.

4. Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,
Freely bestowed on all who believe;
You that are longing to see His face,
Will you this moment His grace receive?

This is my first submission on tinwhistle in a long, long, time. It is a Clarke Meg D (Mel Bay edition). It was recorded in Windows Sound Recorder, and converted in VLC Media Player.

I really look forward to hearing others' take on this tune.

Hey, that's nice, Aaron! I like the slow pace and sweet ornaments.

Makes me think of the old farmer out in Western Oklahoma who said to the senator, who had just given a statistic of how much rain had fallen in the previous year, "And I remember the day we got it, too!"

In an effort to be more active in this community, here's a submission for this. I love the idea of this subforum, by the way. I just don't usually have time to record songs. Or even practice much. It's spring break though, so I have a bit more time on my hands.

I recorded myself learning the tune and then stitched together the parts I didn't mess up. I hope that isn't cheating. If I spent another half hour at it I could probably consistently play it as well as it sounds in the recording.

I tend to have trouble keeping a constant tempo and I think I overdid the ornamentation a bit. I'm always a bit unhappy with my own work though. That's what pushes me to get better. I also think missed a few notes, but I don't think it detracts too much from the song.

Edit: For some reason there was a weird background noise in my first recording so I redid it. I decided to play a ukulele track first and use that to keep the time. The results are much better. The original file has been replaced but my comments about it are still here.

Thanks so much for sharing! the ukelele adds a lot. And I for one like your ornaments....quite nice.
