Hello all:

I have been hosting Praise Whistlers on my basic web plan for many years now. Mac recently asked the question whether we want to continue this group, or is our Facebook group good enough? I've seen much less activity on this message board than in previous years. The domain is up for renewal soon, for a $20 fee. Is this group something that we want to continue?

Dana

Dear Dana!
I have greatly appreciated your support over the years. When I started the first news letter that grew into this wonderful community I never expected so many folks to add so much while I hadn't a clue about how this works.
It should have died on the vine but Scott gave it a name.
It should have dwindled but praise whistlers gave it a reason.
It was almost dead and Aaron rescued it.
You Dana gave it a home and paid the rent and the ransom over and over.
Kitty furnished it lavishly and made it lively and exciting.
Steve gave it a beautiful face lift.
Jim and Judy do amazing maintenance.
So many to thank! Too few get the appreciation they deserve.
I watch in old man astonishment and only have old man contribution and input.

simply put: I can let it go. Thank you all
Old Codger has two songs:
" don't get around much any more"
" ain't gonna need this house much longer'

Mack says "loved you all so much...still do...always will...

Dana, that decision is all yours. At $20 a year (or even each quarter), I wouldn't have any problem reimbursing you that, if cost is the main consideration. We do have some major issues that the current admins can't fix -- no one here now has the permissions (or passwords needed?) to be able to update the board. One admin in particular (me!) doesn't really have a clue as to how to do much maintenance at all, without pointed instructions. (Yea for jrc & Connie!)

Traffic here is very little, but seems to be more than the Face Book account is seeing at this time. At least one member that posts here now does not have a FB account, if I recall correctly.

So, I am ambivalent ... I love this calm corner of the internet, but miss the days when there was always a new post or ten to read. There are 5 or 6 of us who check in almost daily. Unfortunately, most are the 'quiet' members of the crew.

I'll go along with whatever is decided, but will miss PWA immensely, if closing is the choice.

I'd miss it greatly but there are seasons for everything, so I understand if PWA must come to an end.

Thanks for hanging in there as long as you have Dana.

Who was our last person that knew how to update the board? My administrative password no longer works, and I know nothing about how to maintain this message board. I'd be curious whether someone can at least let us in to perform maintenance.

Dana, I'm not sure. It was probably Walden or could have been Kitty. Connie may know -- she has been in contact with Kitty sometime in the past few months.

It seems like most of the members that became admins were drafted to run the Praise Exchange as musicians not computer geeks. I volunteered just to help jrc drain the spam swamp which was truly unbelievable at that point.

Dana, given that you're funding the site you should be able to get the info we need from the company that actually hosts the board... I think.

I manage the church web site and we host with GoDaddy - I can get in on an admin level through a portal there. I'm thinking that's what will be needed to update the PWA board. Certainly Connie is more knowledgeable on this than I - she'll weigh in soon I'm sure (I hope!lol).

Dana, I have the resources to update the board, but my permissions are inadequate. Kitty had the resources and the password levelpermissions, but she doesn’t seem to have her old passwords anymore. If she does, she had a hard time putting her hands on the infomearlier this year.

There are a few people who drop in to visit from time to time. When I re-connected recently I found Revles had stopped in. It’s truly an oasis, and I dread the day someone tries to stop by for healing and finds that dreaded missing url notice.

We all miss Aaron fiercely, His work on this board and the Facebook group have been instrumental in keeping us together for this long. Unfortunately, he was the only administrator on the Facebook group as well, so while it’s usable, it’s orphaned as well. There are some things that could be done to make it more visible to us, but not much can be done by any of us.

All that said, the community is valuable to me. Facebook group seems to always be off my radar for whatever reason. This domain name catches people who drop by for healing and support, or just fellowship, even though the group is small. I still see its value.

My apologies to you, Dana. I was to get in touch with younearlier this year about this very thing, and started to, but you were traveling at the time, as I recall. I apparently did not send off the message, thinking I would wait until you were home.

My password doesn’t get me as far as I remember going, back in the day, for some reason. I can no longer perform updates or change another admin’s permissions. If I had the authority to get your permissions back, I would do it.

OR...Dana, if you have a trusted friend on your end who has some knowledge of phpbb procedures, enlisting their help with an update might be better for your peace of mind.

I imagine jrc and Judy will be a big part of this process. They have been heroic in holding things together for quite some time,

I vaguely remember Kitty having a donate button once so we could help pay the costs of the board. Could we do the same again and help Dana with the cost?

I am glad to hear we will continue. I don’t post often but I drop by often. I am slowing down some. No more long trips.
