Re: PWA winding down

Sad indeed. This has been a place of learning and friendship. Mack, I'm glad you mentioned Aaron and Fancypiper. This place is pretty special. It feel safe and hidden away from the masses. Love the way its ministered to us.

Re: HEY RON!!

Connie, have you been talking to my wife? You are absolutely right. I’ve been playing uke for 18 months and have had a total of 10 ukes during that time. I currently own 6. I’ve even sold a few whistles to fund my acquisitions. Granted the 6 I own, are all vital, of course - just like all my whistle...

Tenor Ukulele!

Me too. What fun. Although I will warn you, a tenor can lead to a baritone, and a bai to a concert, and a concert to a soprano.

Whistles are not the only instrument that can lead to an acquisition disorder.

Glad the bday was great.

Dark Side

Well Im a convert. I've not only picked up playing a stringed instrument, I've actually sold three whistles and a ukulele to fuel purchasing a high end stringed guy. I think I'm in love. Where has the joy of playing a stringed instrument been all my life? Please don't get me wrong, I still play whis...

Re: Confusing news & weather casts

Here in Portland, the leaves are falling. Absolutely stunning in their colors. Its been a very mild fall with little to no rain - although its starting raining this week. And the apples and pumpkins are in full bloom! The people at our church are so generous. We were given two huge boxes of apples l...

Ah, the Unipipper. I remember the first time I saw him in Portland. It was shortly after we moved here. Its not uncommon in Portland to see signs which read, "Keep Portland Weird." I think he was doing his part.

Found a session

We were headed to a concert but got there early.. so we went across the street to a cafe. And what did we discover? A flock or fiddlers, a banjo player, and a couple of guitar twangers! Yep they play there every Thursday night from7-Midnight - Americana folk stuff. Kathy’s picking up the banjo and m...

Must have been a site for sure! Weather here in Portland hasn't been bad - on the warm side for the last week or so. Seems odd to me moving here from the Phoenix area as most houses and even many public buildings have no AC. We have none in our house nor at the church building. But now we all do own...

Praise report

About two months ago, it was discovered (only by God's had), that my wife, Kathy, had what look like a cancerous node in one of her lungs. Last Friday, that notion was confirmed through a lobectomy. The good news is it was caught early so it appears no further treatments are required. As she had zer...

Worship Jam Update

Well, Sunday night we had our 3rd Worship Jam - it was the best yet. It was hosted at a local coffee shop which was ever so cool. We all seemed a little more "hipster." Which is important as we are in Portland's backyard, you know. I had hoped it would serve as an outreach event . . . and it may in ...

Re: Got Uke?

Banjo ukes are a hoot! I played one the other day in a music store. Quite nice..... But I've taken another step and purchased a tenor. That's three in 3 months. I forgot who it was on this board who wrote it - but tis true . . . if its musical, we collect it. No more (at least for a good while). The...

Re: Got Uke?

That's super Ron. I have a soprano and concert. Maybe some day in the deep dark future I'll add a tenor.

I just discovered an incredible book: Arpeggio Meditations for Ukulele by Daniel Ward. Oh my. Its just what I was looking for. Wowzer. Gonna take some time, but they are beautiful.

Re: Got Uke?

Thanks for asking . . . I have ended up with two. I started off with a soprano and really like it. However I found a used one via craigslist that is an oversized concert. It seems a lot easier to learn on. So, my wife has taken to the soprano. As a left handed person, I’ve always struggled with stri...
