Re: iPad or Xoom?

I heard a guy on the radio doing an Android vs Iphone discussion. One thing he mentioned is that Android is open source and can run apps from basically anyone, while Apple... well ... just Apple. Opens up a lot more resources, or so he claimed. Makes sense, but I have no hands-on with either. Neith...

Re: iPad or Xoom?

I use my tower along with my VCR, television tuner card and my stereo as my home entertainment center, but I have been curious about the android tablet that my doctor had at our last gig. One these might be within my price range.

My mother's recitations

This doesn't have anything to do with music, but my dear mother died at age 91 in 1991 and I have a video of her doing some recitations after she had gone blind. She had the best memory of anyone I have ever known.

Re: Best Whistle?

My favorite "concert" whistles are the Clarke original design D and the Parks Whistle Every Whistle in D. My favorite "solo" whistles are my Generation Bb brass tube with the Hoover Blacktop and Mack Hoover's own pvc whitecap B whistle. That's only 4 of about 25 different whistles that I own. Check ...

Re: How do you do this?

Yes, that is a roll and so is the next 3 notes. For the G roll sound G rapidly lift and replace the ring finger, then "pat" the bottom index fimger (or close the whole bottom hand is my current favorite as it gives a bit of a "bump" to it). The cut and pat notes aren't critical since it is a rhythm ...

Re: "Re-vamped" Hoover G

Mack is the winner here. Now I feel WhOA coming on after playing a couple of wooden whistles that would really whistle! I would love to get my hands on a wooden soprano and low Eb whistle to see what I would like best. I just took a quick whistle inventory and I have more of his whistles than any ot...

Re: Every Whistle anyone?

I have both the Every Whistle and the Ghost whistle, but I seldom play the Ghost whistle while the Every whistle is always within reach. I even traded my Burke as the Every whistle as it is a bit louder wide open and closed down, it is even more "whispery" than the Clarke Original design in D, now m...

Re: Fried External Hard Drive

You might take the usb drive assembly apart and see if the drive is an IDE or SATA drive. It may be OK and hopefully, just the interface has been smoked. If so, you can install the drive in a desktop computer. That is what happened to mine (an IDE drive) and I am still using the drive. I tossed the ...

I usually cover all the fingerholes and stick the fipple up past the blade into my mouth and blow about 6 lungs full of air through my whistles pitched low A on down.

Re: I Can't Hear Myself!

I wonder if this Wireless Headset Microphone might do the trick for you. The headset doesn't have earphones on it, it is just another mic that you can use with the transmitter. In order to hear yourself, I think that you would need an separate input on the sound system for the receiver and a separat...

Re: I Can't Hear Myself!

Try playing the whistle from the side of your mouth on your dominant ear side, the other ear positioned so as to minimize the sound of the other stuff.

The large brimmed hat works as well, but our church recommends that men be uncovered and the ladies wear a prayer covering in church.

Mack certainly makes a low F. I have one, a Whitecap aluminum.

BTW, a C whistle plays in F, just use the G fingering.

I have short, stubby fingers and I have no problem with my older version of his low D. Michael has a money back satisfaction guarantee that used to be on his pa...

Re: Which whistle for Dm?

It depends upon the mode you need.

A C whistle will play the D dorian mode (the scale starts on Re), the D Aeolian would need a B whistle, I think.

Re: I took a picture of a possum.

I have seen them vary from "silver" to almost black. Most 'possums here tend toward the silver and they just hissed at me and tried to crawl further back into my plywood/2X4/sheetrock stack if I tried to prod it to go outside (when I was a house owner).
