from year on

Post by mack »

Somehow gotten to the second week of the year.
Haven't made many resolutions I can keep...that's clear.
Thought of giving up chocolate...what a miserable thought!
Looking back though the years at the joy cocoa's brought.

I'm cuckoo over cocoa! Beautiful is brown.
I nibble double chocolate chips, and then I wash them down
With double chocolate mocha hot and then I double dip
Chocolate, chocolate chip ice cream with dark syrup to the lip.
At campfires I make smores sans the marshmallows and the grahams.
We do our chocolate shopping at... you know where: at Sam's!

Chocolate's great, no ifs ands or buts,
But some think it's better when covering nuts!
I happen to be one of that kind,
And can't get Reeses off of my mind!
Almond Joys are superior to Mound,
And Snickers don't last past the day they are found.
Kisses with almonds are smackers for sure
For us who don't like our chocolate as pure
As silky or creamy or chocolaty smooth,
It's crunchy and nutty that really does sooth!
KitKat , Butterfinger, Crackle, and Chunk,
Beats any day a chewy Big Hunk!
Maybe some else should take it from here?
I could go on and on on chocolaty cheer!
--Mack Hoover 8/20/05--

You just got peanut butter on my chocolate!

2005 was good Hershy Nestly year!
I predict 2019 to be one too. Bought a bag of Tootsie Rolls. Trick or treaters left some in the bowl and I got hooked.

by the way: chocolate is not a drug!

Years ago I found this somewhere and found it in my archives:

God Bless the Parents who Drugged us

The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a Methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question.

"Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?"

I replied, "I had a drug problem when I was young: I was drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for weddings and funerals. I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather. I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults. I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me. I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity. I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flowerbeds and cockleburrs out of dad's fields. I was drug to the homes of family, friends and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood, and, if my mother had ever known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed. Those drugs are still in my veins and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, or think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin, and, if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place. God bless the parents who drugged us."

The author wasn't credited, so if anyone knows the author, I would like to credit them when/if I use it.

Give up chocolate!?! [-(

Mack, I make one resolution every year, and immediately break it by making the resolution. It is to make NO resolutions.

Love the paeans to chocolate. Chocolate, especially dark chocolate, is a health food. I once read an article in a local paper that said eating a piece of dark chocolate could be as effective as taking an aspirin.

I also had that very same 'drug' problem growing up and thank God on a regular basis for the parents He gave me.
