I Can't Help Falling In Love

Post by ConnieS »

Say what you will, it's a pretty tune with lush harmonies. I'm going to put this here, then I'm going to probably spend some time playing along in high tenor on whistle.

Nice!

Love the cellist ... the pianist is very good, but my ears disagreed with a couple of her note/chord choices.

Oh, goodness! With the cellist dominating the piece, I didn’t pay much attention at all to the pianist! Will go back and listen again.

First piano note that seems off to me is around the 0:36 mark. I fully admit that my ears are strangely picky on what they consider slightly discordant. Others like the sounds that strike me as 'not quite right'. Sometimes the chords chosen in a piece of music just seem 'wrong'. YMMV.

My mind can be a scary place to visit .... 8)

thanks for the link!
the problem is with my antique computer and my obsolete thinking! Elvis is still my preferred version!
I wasn't bothered by the discord but the lack of sentiment and the heavy handedness of both players.

It sounds good, it's not that. It's that is doesn't evoke what Elvis does. He would be just one month older than I am if his body had lived as his music has.
Sentimentally

Here you go, Mack -- the best version I could find on a quick search. I agree that Elvis does give a more emotionally touching performance.

Sweet video!

Judy, I see what you mean. She wants to drone that one note. It’s kind of done these days, but it does kind of jangle with traditional harmonies.

Can't resist adding another entry in the "Can't Help Falling in Love" stakes - a mix with What a Wonderful World and Can't Help Falling by The Hound & the Fox and Peter & Evynne Hollens:

Guess my ears like traditional harmonies best. ;)

BTW, I think your whistle would add immensely to the tune!

Oh, SEE! Now ya went and made my eyes leak! That’s so beautiful! Especially the end with all the (ahem) TRADITIONAL harmonies!

Those are two favorite songs of mine. What a wonderful world always leaves me feeling thankful, so in an odd way it’s become a praise to God song for me.

Anyhow, yesterday I was outdoors waiting for someone and I got chilly so I went and sat in my car. I was playing the cello/piano version above on my phone plugged into the car’s sound system. So I pulled up the Thumbjam app on my phone with a realistic cello player, and played along—my cello sound blending in over the system. It was seamless and amazing! I was able to find the harmony and I got really, really lost in the music. Unforgettable experience!

Both songs are also 2 of my favorites, Connie ... and I agree with your sentiments entirely!

Too bad your Thumbjam app didn't record your 'car concert'. Would have loved hearing it!

I thought she was pretty conservative honestly ... couple of passing major 7ths added just a little dissonance. but i like dissonance, so ... The voicings in both the original and the one you posted seem very similar.

very nicely done all in, imo.

Ah, jrc, you are a much more modern-minded, jazz-trained REAL musician! I am a traditionalist with very little real musical training, and not as much appreciation of the finer points.

Happy to see ya!

Love revisiting this thread, but hate to see that the YouTube videos are gone without a trace. Seems like the link should have shown. Why doesn't the videos show since the server change and the update?

I think the extensions we used to show YouTube videos were created years ago for the old software. I’ve been having trouble finding new extensions. Hopefully someone will write one eventually.

Very pretty, Mack! Someone in the comments described it as 'music mixed with raindrops'. That was a beautiful & accurate description.

I never remember the proper name for those. Thumb piano is as good as it usually gets. We've had a couple of these with a smaller number of tines/keys/blades (?). Might have to look for a larger one ... just ... because .... :-'
