Furbee?

Post by Judy K »

Has anyone heard of an instrument maker named or using "Furbee"? My niece gave me a mezzo A flute (fife?) body is copper (looks to be coated with some type of clear stuff) and the mouth piece (~ 4" top, but doesn't adjust or separate) is aluminum.

It has a very nice tone, is well in tune. The only complaint I have is the hole in the mouth piece is simply a round hole, not oval, no adjustments to make it easier to play. (I think I was 'gifted' the flute because I get a tune out of it and my niece was having difficulty.)

Going OT now, but the "Furbee" search led me to a interesting store in Cincinnati, specializing in instruments (looks mostly like guitars) and vinyl records -- Herzog Music & Bill Furbee. Most interesting is he seems to go exploring other music & vinyl shops on "Day Hikes" - https://www.thecincyvinyltrail.com/tag/instruments/. I believe I've found a couple of nifty places to explore here in southern Ohio. 8)

However, I recall hearing some 'bad' things from some of them -- just not notes.
