delete spam?

Post by jimwasson »

Another forum (unrelated,) of which I am a part, incorporates a 'delete spam' button in each post. If a member comes across a post which is (apparently) spam, clicking on that button temporarily removes the post and sends it for moderator review. The moderator can reinstate the post if it appears to not be spam, and abuse of the button by a member would result in them no longer being able to use it.

Spam has not been much of a problem here, but I notice multiple such posts by a member tonight, all of which have already been removed. Should spam become an increasing problem here, member removal of these posts might be one option for our moderators to consider.

(Edit - perhaps this should have been in the 'Suggestions' section.)

Hey Jim,

The program we're running here is phpbb2. I've read that phpbb3 is about to come out anytime (it's been in testing for a while now), and it has some really neat features included as standard... such as all posts from new members will be held in a moderation queue until a certain number of posts has been reached (and I think we can set the threshold). That will mean spam never reaches the board.

I, the LORD, do all these things."

That'll be good. Thanks for the reply. (And for moving the post.)
